Living in Dortmund

As an ethnically and culturally diverse city, Dortmund has much to offer. On the one side you can immerse into some of Germany's most multi-cultural areas. On the other side you can enjoy life in bohemian neighborhoods.

Walking in the Phoenix See area, it is possible to see what concrete urban planning visions can bring to post-industrial regions. With monuments to the industrial legacies on site, the area now serves as a leisure, high-tech and high end residential hot-spot.

On an international scale, you might have heard of Borussia Dortmund, locally known as BVB and Signal Iduna Park, Germany's largest soccer stadium. That is where our first year students are usually welcomed at.

Studying in Dortmund

With roughly 35,000 enrolled students (in 10/2017), TU Dortmund University is the largest institution of higher education in the city. The university was founded in 1968 amidst, and in response to regional, post-war restructuring processes in the region.

Both, our North and South Campuses can easily be reached via regional and local public transports and are only a short trip away from downtown Dortmund.

Traveling outside Dortmund

Due to its central position, living and studying in Dortmund offers you the possibility to easily travel around North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany as well as Europe.

Cities such as Cologne and Düsseldorf are only a short trip away by train and have already been awarded for their high quality of life. Visiting these places gives you the possibility to immerse into local carnival parades and to see historically important buildings such as the Cathedral of Cologne.

Have you ever wondered what life in metropolises like Berlin, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Brussels and Frankfurt looks like? These places can easily be reached from Dortmund Central Station within two or three hours.

For those of you opting for travel destinations outside of Germany and the neighboring Benelux countries, you might choose direct train connections to places such as Zurich or Paris. Apart from that Dortmund Airport, Düsseldorf Airport also has to offer you a huge variety of destinations all around Europe (and the globe).
